Geometric Grid-Based Designs

Geometric Grid-Based Designs - student project

Stage 1: Standard Grids

Some of my favourite standard grids, but there are just too many of them to share! Also I'm completely obsessed with polar grids just at they are, and I need to put more effort into experimenting with them when developing designs instead of sticking to just a few of them:)

Stage 2: Custom Grids

A selection of my favourite custom grids which look quite spectacular as is, don't you think?;) Most of these grids I have used and developed into final designs already, but there are a few which I still need to play around with and see what I can do with them!

Stage 3 4: Design Development Styling

Just a small selection of different kinds of designs we have created using the techniques from this class:

1) Letterform — developed as a part of 36 Days of Type 2018 challenge. (There is a bonus video in the class where you can watch how I've developed a different letter from the same set).

2) Super simple fish which looks great styled with gradients. And there's more fishes to come;)

3) Some fun pattern tiles based on a standard grid combo:

4) Continuous pattern with elements shaded with gradients & styled with super subtle lines (in the blue areas):

5) Cannot stop thinking about Renault logo, but love this kind of structures, both just as lines and coloured with gradients:

6) A pattern tile based on an isometric grid and developed further using Live Corners. Makes me think of strawberries for some reason:D

7) Experiment with creating a graphic locomotive illustration styled with gradients and blends (you can watch the complete time-lapse of making this design is the bonus video for the class).

8) A little bit of Art Deco inspiration here: always wanted to create something like this, and styling with lines and gradients makes all the difference!

9) An abstract tech-inspired composition styled with blends.

10) A random experiment which makes me smile:) Got something in mind for this one!

11) Stages of development of one of the designs from the Geometric Studies series (#03) — a simple to make grid which looks rather complex and a lot of line removal using the Shape Builder tool to get to the final result.

Thanks for watching! You can find many more examples in the class and more experiments are yet to come!;)
