Garden Abstract

Thanks Rebecca for this class! It was super interesting. I really love the concept, but I have one confession; the only ink I own is the kind I put in my fountain pen (very dark blue, looks black). But I like the idea so much that, even though I do not have (yet) those nice colorful inks, I wanted to give it a try.

My curiosity was also peaked by your pebeo drawing gum. I didn't like the one I had because of the smell, so I wanted to give this one a try. And even though the paper I used was called 'watercolor paper', it is by far nothing of good quality. (We are still in an international move, and even though we're a bit settled and back into daily painting habits, I don't have all my material, so I am doing what I can with what I have now.) The pebeo drawing gum worked great, even on this not-so-good paper. I am definitely going to use it again!

But for the colors, I used watercolors instead of inks, and it shows. The black part is ink, and you can see the way it spreads, sort of mixes with the blue (top part above the 'frame'), but between blue and green, and green and brown, it doesn't give the same effect. I guess this is a good example on how not to do this exercise. ;-)

And for the shimmer, I only have silver and not gold, so I used that, but it doesn't give a great contrast like yours does.
