Frustration to the max!

I was not able to do this project correctly, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why! I. Tried. EVERYTHING! To get it to work. Changed needles. Changed stabilizer. Changed bobbins, prewound and self wound. Changed thread. Changed file type. You name it, I tried it to try to get things to work correctly, and pffT!
The cover picture is my best attempt, but as you can see, even that's not correct. I didn't cut too closely; those stitches never took, and I have no idea why. As you can see below, I've done embroidery projects before, but for whatever reason, this one just wouldn't work for me. I really wanted to make some coasters for my aunt.
I don't know if it's my machine, and I need to take it in for repairs, or if my machine just isn't having it.
That being said, all is not lost! In trying to do this, I did learn quite a lot about my embroidery machine! I've had one for a few years, but I haven't really used it because I was a bit afraid of it honestly. That's why I decided to take this class. I'm looking at the silver lining here: I learned something, which was the whole point. Even though I couldn't make the project work correctly, I leaned more about the machine I spent A LOT of money on, and that's something that matters. Hopefully I can get this issue sorted and start playing with my machine a bit more!
