Flowers

Red Challenge (below)
I went a bit crazy with this and it was starting to get a bit 'muddy' so I decided to leave it. I usually paint mostly in acrylics so I was tempted to start layering paint and had to stop myself. For the next one I would like to leave more of my painting transparent. This was fun to do and I enjoyed exploring my colours before starting the project. I chose to add geraniums to my picture and made it all quite informal. I also darkened parts of my painting with indigo. Thank you for the lesson. I can't wait to try the next colour scheme!
Orange Challenge
Here is my second painting, with orange flowers this time. I used a cadmium orange and cadmium red blend for the aloe vera flowers and lemon yellow with permanent rose for the other ones (eraldo di Paolo brand). I think my green plant is a bit overpowering. I toned it down a bit with an ultramarine wash. I was not happy with my aloe vera stems which are a bit too straight but overall it was a fun project.
Yellow Challenge
I decided to paint sunflowers, but just a single layer of petals as I liked the simplicity.
I like my leaves even if they are a bit bright...though this seems to be my style! Thankyou Nina for another great class.
Green Challenge.
I enjoyed mixing a range of different greens for this project. I tried to tie all the elements together with the purple made from Permanent Rose and Pythalo Blue. I loved adding the leaves at the end. I used Ultramarine Blue with a warm yellow for these, then added some yellow and purple highlights. Thank you for the class:)
Blue Challenge.
I loved using the water effects around my flowers for this challenge. I think my central flower came out a bit dark but apart from that I am happy with my painting. My paper buckled quite a bit from the water but it is mixed media paper so I will have to use proper watercolour paper next time! Thanks so much for this class Nina.
Violet Challenge.
I attempted this one a few times as I wanted to do African daisies but that didn't really work out! Here I have followed Nina with the anemones and added a couple of roses etc. I learnt a lot about mixing violets in this challenge. Thank you for the lesson:)
White Challenge.
I found this one to be difficult but loved mixing the colours and playing around with the background. I had two attempts and photographed them among the daisies in my garden. I will have to do the white flower class to improve my skills but for my first ever white flowers in watercolour, I don't think these are too bad! Thank you so much for all of the lessons. Much appreciated:).
