Figure Drawing

Figure Drawing - student project

Great class so far!

I really enjoyed the gesture drawing early on – the outcome feels full of energy and I love the speed in which I can get shapes down, and I'm much more drawn to the abstract nature of it. I would like to try adding some wash to these to see how they look with some light/shade.

The scribble drawing creates an interesting result – I haven't tried that before.

Have to say I'm finding the charcoal pencil easier than the compressed sticks – might invest in the conte pencil and see how I get on with that.

Very much struggled and was frustrated with the slow pace of the contour drawing (I'm definitely drawn to quicker sketching) but I persevered as I assume if I continue to practice this technique it will aid and improve my drawing in the long run.

Anatomy again is tricky – this is something I will need to keep studying further. I find that seeing/feeling the muscles and bones instinctively when I'm drawing is easier than trying to switch on my logical brain and think about where they actually are (if that makes sense?)

I've reached the torso studies and will leave it here for today and pick up the rest of the class tomorrow.

Any tips and advice much appreciated! Haven't drawn much since school (about 15 years ago!) and recently picked it up again during the last lockdown as found I was missing creating art and sketching very much despite working as a full time graphic designer. Excited fill a few sketchbooks this year!
