Exploring markers

Exploring markers - student project

*Completed project*

I decided I wanted to work to explore all of the different mediums I have on hand and coming across this class, thought it be a good way to review markers. I've not really used markers before so have just been experimenting with those I have (Crayola Supertips & Creative Pl Graphic Markers plus one lonely Tombow) on some scrap paper...

Day 1: Currently Listening to...

I just drew some album covers as they came up on my Spotify playlist as well as the book I've been listening to on Audible...

Day 2 3: Recently I Learned Creating with...

Experimented a little with limiting the colour palette, and became aware of my seeming to automatically want to 'outline' everything in black so I'm working on letting the marker itself create its own edge to a shape/form. Also feeling a need to level-up my hand-lettering skills...

Day 4: Latest Reading Material...

I love this colour combination: teal yellow black. Also, apparently the scanner on my decade-old ink-less printer still works, so from here on out, I use it...Exploring markers - image 4 - student project

Day 5: Ingredients to my Mess...

Well...the coffee stain looks eerily like a blood stain...really should have gone with the yellow/black there after-all. I'm loving the Batman Lego mini-figure, I must say (also, note to self, use more texture/pattern as fills for shapes)...Exploring markers - image 5 - student project

Day 6: Daily Routine...

Day 7: Current Cravings...

Fresh fruits...and basil! I seem to be really enjoying complimentary colours, and a good dash of grey for shadows to create a bit of form. I'm finding that I really like 'sketchier' type lines...

Day 8: I Keep Wearing...

Yes...socks and sandals, because, well, Winter comfort while wandering around at home. No, they are not that colour (they're black), but my jacket is so I went with it. Creating the knitted and cork textures for the jacket and shoes was fun! [Note to self: get yourself a proper fine-tip white marker some point soon for larger areas/lettering]...Exploring markers - image 8 - student project

Day 9: Self Care Necessities...

Day 10: Grocery Run...

I went a little overboard with colour here ( should've left the milk carton white) but I'm happy enough with it regardless...Exploring markers - image 10 - student project

Day 11: Favourite Corner...

A little newly-paved seating corner we've named 'The Spot' in my garden - a brilliant place to sit in the sun with a cuppa on a cool day...

Day 12: Toiletry Bag Favourites...

Honestly, I don't feel any need to use much more than the basics. This was a very quick drawing done in a busy day without too much thought, which I think likely added more to that basic/simple theme. I used the 'colourless blender' marker to press out dots in the blue for the bristles of the brush, which worked quite well actually...

Day 13: Reliable Recipe...

With an abundance of leafy greens growing in my garden at the moment (any of which work beautifully in this side dish), I've been making and devouring this daily (sometimes, twice daily!) I enjoyed this, and might just do this with a lot of other recipes I have laying around...

Day 14: #obsessed...
All day, every day...herbs.  Growing them, researching them, cooking with them, yes, all the herbs...

...and with that, I'm DONE!

This class was great! It had me actually sitting down day after day to create (sometimes, when in the mood, I'd do a couple each day), the prompts helping greatly to alleviate the 'what on Earth will I draw today' mental block I often find myself in. The markers helped to make it more fun, channeling my inner child, so to speak, and I felt less desire to make things 'perfect'. I loved the 'visual journaling' aspect of this project, and will likely continue this in some form into the future.

Thanks, Dylan, for another fantastic class!
