Hi Lilith! This is actually pretty good, don’t be too hard on yourself if you feel you didn’t get it right. The jeans and the fantasy costume look well drawn, the compression folds in the shirt image (bottom left) could probably use a little more time to work on. The back of the dress laying on the ground looks a little flat, remember to emphasise some overlapping in this area to create the sense that part of the dress is trailing behind. But overall really good attempt here. Keep this up, maybe without the time limit. Did you have any questions about the class? :)

Hey! Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to respond, definitely see your points there! One question, not about the class per se: how do you handle drawings that involve "messier" things, where it's mostly the fabric informing the shape rather than a structured form underneath (e.g. rumpled blankets, jeans or jacket in a pile). Reference is sometimes hard to find, or I don't want to copy it exactly, and I don't always have things on hand to shoot my own ref. Is there a good way to think logically about those kinds of forms?

You’re talking about Inert Folds or Dead Folds are they are sometimes called. Even though those type of folds still have the patterns we talked about in the lesson the problem is they are more difficult to see because as you say the fabric in creating the shape more than the underlying structure it’s sitting on. The reason there wasn’t much talk about this in the lesson is because Inert Folds are kind of their own subject matter. They’re external folds. What it’s really going to come down to if you want to draw them from your mind is a lot of practicing from reference in order to develop a feel for how your Inert Folds should look. Try to look at what the overall shape of the fabric is making, take note of how it’s folding over and the start to break down the Inert Fold into smaller shapes from that. Look for the biggest and most obvious shapes first  that are being formed, and then gradually sketch in the more smaller shapes. I’m looking at doing a specific Drapery/Clothing series in the future, and Inert Folds will be one of the topic. I hope this helps in some way for now. Let me know if there’s anything else!
