Day 5 (Smell)

Day 5 (Smell) - student project

26.06.2024

11.32

I'm listening to "People Help the People" by Birdy. There's a scented candle right next to my computer that I haven't lit yet (perhaps I can smell it without even lighting it). About a few months ago, I entered a store at the mall to buy myself perfume. I couldn't find the scent I wanted, so out of boredom, I started sniffing the candles, and for some reason, they felt closer to me...

Then I picked up one with a brown exterior and three wicks, and without looking at its name or fragrance, I brought it to my nose with my eyes closed. Suddenly, I was transported back to my childhood when my dad used to bring marzipan flavored chocolates from abroad; I loved them so much. I was intensely smelling almond scent.

He also used to bring chocolates with 12 pieces inside, but only two of them were coffee-flavored (they were the best-tasting ones). My brother and I used to fight over them.

I could smell coffee, but it felt more like a café atmosphere rather than strong coffee. The aroma spread like coffee does in cafes. I opened my eyes and read the name on the candle: "Paris Cafe." Without hesitation, I bought the candle, which was more expensive than the budget I had set for perfume.

It wasn't about it being beautiful; what mattered was its ability to remind me of something and evoke feelings.
