The Chickadee looks realistic, and I would like to cuddle it in my hands. Those flicked-on feathers around its beak and chin are perfect.

Such a beautiful piece, Chris! You’ve done an excellent job using the wet-on-wet technique to create that soft, blurred winter background—it gives the painting such a peaceful, serene feel. The chickadee is painted with such care, and the soft gradations in its feathers really bring it to life. The twigs and berries look so realistic, especially with the lovely red that contrasts beautifully with the snow. The snowflakes bring that magical winter touch that completes the whole scene. I’m so glad you enjoyed the class! Well done!

Wow!  I love it.  I need to jump on this chickadee train, so many beautiful paintings coming from this class.  I absolutely love the way you've handled the colors.  Your chickadee has incredible contrast and form, and your background has a cooler more wintery feel.  The snowcapped branch really pops with those darker background colors, and yet the light still shines through the background beautifully.  And that little touch of a warm highlight on the bird's back, it's so good.

I&nbsp;have never painted a chickadee, and I really enjoyed it! I may make this our Christmas card this year. Thanks to Chris for his incredible tips, tricks, and thorough instructions. I really needed to use the permanent rose/white gouache technique at the end to pull back some of those cherry highlights, so I loved that tip. I also loved that there&nbsp;was a lovely, limited palette with some beautiful mixes!
