Complimentary palms series
This was a very enjoyable class! I loved hearing two different perspectives on the use and approach of color. Tons of great professional experience.
After a few days of practicing drawing, I find I really need to see some color come through my hands or I get cranky / depressed, so I played with some neon colors I never use from my craft paint to see what would happen. I was also taking this color class and was inspired by the palm tree project and was going try a small series.
- These neon backgrounds were still on my easel and I wondered what would happen if I tried some complimentary colored palm trees on top of these bright backgrounds? They are in the order of creation, (red tree, dark green tree with yellow neon in background, dark green tree, blue tree).
I used a bunch of different brushes and tools trying to get the right look or feel, the thinness of line and just went through several tries. When I did the last one, after I added the turquoise/teal I knew I was in love, so I had to add it to the others.
Overall, I was very happy with how these turned out. The most frustrating part is the brushes - and I may just have to learn patience with them (they lose shape and their edge). Maybe I am expecting too much and it is part of being an artist to learn how to use the brush properly. How many paintings should a brush last? I also bought The Masters brush cleaner soap to help, but I still go through the brushes. They just lose their crisp edge. Learning how to adapt!
