Cats & Flowers Sketchbook

What makes a purrfect subject to study and parctice?...I can paint flowers and Cats for days and then again and again, so I hope you'll find some inspiration too!..

There are millions of ways to paint a Cat (or a Flower) so you'll always have a unique artwork.

After drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Steinlen and Louis Wain + Botanicals, I explored ideas in my square sketchbook. I experimented with effects like:

Contrast

Supergranulation

Restricting spread

I then prepared a color palette for a large study of Cat and Flowers. I love the way you can mix watercolors in unexpected ways.

After finishing the artwork I wanted to add something special..and tried pressed Flowers!

....and then in Procreate, I practiced painting a Black Cat surrounded by Hydrangea flowers. What a striking color combination!

I wanted to use a lot of textures (paper and overlay) to add depth of traditional painting to it.
