OMG, you are good! How long have you been water coloring? I have a feeling this wasn’t a retirement thing like me.Been painting for over a year and I am afraid to do anything other than a tutorial. I just can’t make the jump. I am learning tons though but feel like this is stifling me. I am sorry that this is so long but I have no one else to talk to about this.

Thank you so much for your kind words Leila! It's great to hear from you. I took up watercolors after retiring, and I’m absolutely loving it! At 66, I started my watercolor journey in February 2023, and it all began on Skillshare.  I dabbled in oils about 25 years ago, but I stopped because of the mess and the cleanup involved. Back then, I had a nice space where I could paint freely, but after moving a couple of times and losing my art room, I needed a change. When we moved again after my retirement, I finally had the space to set up my art again! I wanted to paint but didn’t want to go back to oils, so I turned to watercolors after discovering some amazing Youtube videos and joining Skillshare. It’s been such a wonderful community; I’ve met so many fantastic instructors and fellow artists. I did start with gouache, but watercolor just captured my heart! I do enjoy acrylics too, but I find watercolor the easiest to clean up and the quickest to set up, so it’s become my go-to medium. One big thing I’d love to share is that trying something new is so rewarding—there’s really nothing to lose and so much to gain. Every piece you create brings you closer to feeling comfortable with your art! Keep going~It will be your biggest reward! Unfortunately I don’t. I live in the Great Nortwest in Milwaukie Oregon (a suburb of Portland Oregon). Colorado is another beautiful state with so much painting inspiration.

Your work is so pretty. I love the soft glow in the sky and the foreground is so interesting.

This is really pretty, the grasses and flowers in the foreground and the trees are so delicate and I love the colours of the sky X

love how soft and fluid this is. Looks like you and I are on our mission to enjoy and learn without being graded. lol. Being 69 there is a lot of freedom to just to enjoy what we do.
