Best Leader

I feel like the three questions from all the courses point to the same answer, but when I look back on my career, this particular supervisor stands out because he was the first one to make me feel like I belonged in the organization; he basically welcomed me with open arms. He was my first supervisor when I was hired as a social media and online sales manager.

What made him exceptional was his communication style. He was highly approachable and created an environment where I felt comfortable bringing up any topic. Even though we worked in different locations and did not have frequent formal one-on-ones, he maintained consistent communication by checking in daily. These quick check-ins made a big difference; they showed attentiveness, built trust, and ensured I felt supported without being micromanaged.

He also demonstrated strong active listening and empathy. When we spoke, he was present and focused, which made our conversations feel meaningful rather than transactional. His communication was always clear, respectful, and constructive, especially when providing feedback. He focused on growth rather than criticism, which made it easier to receive and apply his guidance.

Another key strength was his intentional use of communication to develop others. He encouraged me to pursue professional development opportunities and further my education, even when it didn’t directly benefit the company. This showed genuine investment in my long-term success. He also introduced practical tools, such as keeping a “Love-Me Page” to track accomplishments, which helped me reflect on my progress and communicate my value more effectively.

He maintained a strong balance between approachability and professionalism, reinforcing trust while still preserving clear boundaries. He communicated expectations clearly, consistently supported me, and created a positive, motivating work environment.

Overall, his communication style was effective because it combined clarity, consistency, empathy, and intentional development. He didn’t just communicate to manage tasks, he communicated to build trust, support growth, and strengthen the working relationship.
