Bekka's Passion Project

Bekka's Passion Project - student project

Loved this class (thanks Lauren!).

I haven't gotten to the picking stage just yet, but these are my first two brainstorming pieces. I'm leaning towards trying out food lettering or to the obscure postcard idea most.Bekka's Passion Project - image 1 - student project

Decided to go with lettering with food, because Lauren made it look so darn fun! I just finished my second segment, and I already veered off of my original plan.

I was going to letter uplifting quips, but then immediately got sidelined after I thought it would be funny to make "Gimme Some Sugar - Cookies!" I thought they were really funny, but when I finished I started thinking "maybe this isn't funny, maybe it's too much..." my partner thought they were funny too, but we both decided that maybe I should rephrase them as "Things you shouldn't say on a first date." or something along those lines...

I did try and make more process photos which were fun! I made the sugar cookies from scratch and I experimented with the icing as well using a combination of powdered sugar and oat milk. For the pink frosting, I blended up powdered sugar, oat milk, and strawberries (I found a recipe for natural food colors here).

I totally want to try this one again, I felt like my first mix of frosting set super well and made lettering easier. My second two batches were runnier, but I ran out of powdered sugar to be able to firm them up at all. But I learned a lot and had a great time!
