I've got CS5 but I managed to get gradients onto these waves by expanding the strokes after the last Ungroup action. It's amazing what different effects you can get from the same black design using different gradients and blending modes.

Here's another, using two blends whose spines I manipulated to meet at each end. The blend mode was colour burn which makes it almost iridescent.
