Apples, in Light and Shadow

Apples, in Light and Shadow - student project

I chose to share the my apples still life, as its probably the best thing that I have been able to draw to date. I’ve been diligently doing the practice and it wasn’t easy - it doesn’t come naturally for me to think in terms like ‘penumbra’ and ‘core shadow’ but I made my swatches, practiced on toned paper and worked diligently on my light logic sketchbook.
It wasn’t easy - I struggled to maintain my motivation at times, drawing dozens of spheres and cylinders, and in the end, I think the logicality of light has sunk, instinctively, into my skull.
I’ve got a whole load of projects to work on, in ink, watercolor, gauche and charcoal, and I’ll put what I have learned into those paintings and drawing, and keep learning the art and science of light.
