Absurdism, a gateway to Stoicism

Absurdism, a gateway to Stoicism - student project

As I understand it, absurdism is the bridge to understanding that there are certain things in life that just don’t make sense. But even though these contradictions or paradoxes exist, we can learn to adapt and grow with them. Living with an absurdist mindset, as said in the course, can help with letting go of vindications as a means to enter into a stoic mindset. To stay completely in the absurdist philosophy is to reject any form of self-harm or vice as all of these don’t matter. In the same sense, it is also equivalent to saying that success in life doesn’t matter. Nevertheless, an air of gratitude can be found in having a deep-founded appreciation for the small things in life that are often overlooked to carry out a bigger goal. Like in stoicism, the dichotomy of control and voluntary discomfort help us to disengage with our volatile emotions that could lead to irreversible actions. Having an absurdist mindset aids in contradicting the popular belief that the pursuit of happiness is the priority because it is in the journey that we find true peace and contentment. And although contentment may be the opposite of excitement, these two concepts can be together in harmony, as their differences are muddled by the absurdist philosophy.
