30 days of sketching
Day 1 - Still Life, my cup of coffee
Day 2 - Blobs
Day 3 - Quote
Day 4 - Live drawing from a movie : "The Breadwinner"
Day 5 - Self Portrait
Day 6 - Stylised self portrait
I used some drawings from Charles Burns as a reference for this one.
Day 7 - Nature Study
A few days ago I adopted a little, neglected pancake plant. I named him Jonas and he already seems to be recovering. Let's hope he pulls through. :-)
Day 8 - Architecture
I don't really have a dreamhouse, but it would definitely have a charming greenhouse and a wild garden.
Day 9 - Book cover : "The Testaments" - Margaret Atwood
Cover by Noma Bar.
Day 10 - Sequential art
Day 11 - Poetry
Poetry, not something I normally do, but I took on the challenge and wrote some of my own.
Day 12 - Timed art
Day 13 - Flora
Using watercolor pencils for the first time.
Day 14 - Single line
Day 15 - New medium, paper cut-outs.
Drawing with scissors :-)
Day 16 - Water landscape
Day 17 - Style study, Frank Miller (Sin City)
Day 18 - Upside down
Day 19 - Man made landscape
This one wasn't working out for me and I got frustrated and impatient and then I gave up.
Day 20 - Animal study, Otters
Day 21 - Natural landscape
Way out of my comfort zone, both in medium and subject. Can't say I really like the outcome, but the process itself was quite enjoyable.
Day 22 - Pet study
I'm really starting to love painting, definitely gonna pursue that more in the future. Using acrylics to paint a friend's puppy.
Day 23 - Expressions
Giving gouache another go. I know they're pretty bad, but for my current skill level in painting I think they're pretty good, and most importantly, I do like 'em ;-)
Day 24 - Age study
Acorn - sapling - Oak tree. Patting myself on the back now, but I'm so happy over how this turned out.
Day 25 - Book scene, "A son of the circus" by John Irving
On page 100 the main character is in Vienna, having Sachertorte for the first time, his favourite dessert from then on.
And yes, the one I drew is actually the one I ate when I was in Vienna :-D
Day 26 - OOTD
Day 27 - Alphabet
Day 28 - Scribble
I actually got nervous about drawing the random scribbles, so I used this excercise as a reminder not to take things too serious.
Day 29 - Impossible object
A magical key that can unlock anything, except locks. Wether it be someone's heart, creativity or even unlocking one's full potential.
Choose wisely.
Day 30 - Anatomy study
For the final prompt I decided to just sketch some sketches in my new sketchbook, and see how sketching now compares to sketching 7 or 8 weeks ago.
Oh boy, what a difference! My sketches now are much more free, loose and experimental. I just pick up my pen and start drawing, without fear of failure. I used to overthink what I was going to draw, how I was going to draw it, and how the final result should look. Now it was just, okay, let's start drawing some hands and we'll see what happens and go along with that.
I never expected such an impact from this class, but there you have it : I feel truly liberated. So, thank you, Cara. Thank you so much!
