Painting a symmetrical folk art design

First I explored basic floral shapes in my sketchbook and applied these to a simple symmetrical design:

 

The 2 following designs, a heart-shaped and a round one, were a little bit more complex. Sketching out everything in light pencil helps to keep everything straight! Using only one color like in the last example can help you to develop a better sense for contrast and composition.
