Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
I decided to do the first book in the original Percy Jackson series. For those who don't know it, it's an ancient-Greek-mythology themed series set in the modern-day USA that follows a group of young half-bloods (half god half mortal) kids as they fight battles etc. I still love the characters in this series and know that for a lot of my friends, it was the first book that got them into reading.
I'm a motion designer, so I plan on doing an animated cover to accompany the static one that could be displayed on an online bookstore or e-reader. My younger brother got a digital version of Harry Potter that has some animated images in it and I was inspired by that. I'm not planning on following the foil restrictions for that reason.
As I mentioned, the books are written for middle school aged kids, but they also have a huge 'fandom' of people my age (mid-twenties) and I'm thinking of focusing on them as my audience as opposed to new readers. I'm considering emphasizing the 'Percy Jackson' on the cover since the character has become more recognizable than each individual title.
Here are my top 6 sketches so far. I'd love feedback on which ones I should bring into the next step!
Thanks to Jessica for the amazing course. Looking forward to the next steps.
