Final conceptual illustration - A Bird’s-Eye View of Contraception

I decided to illustrate an article about male contraception, and more specifically vasectomy, which is still relatively uncommon in France for various reasons that I’ll let you discover in this article published by La Déferlante magazine in 2021: “Qui a peur de la vasectomie ?”

Although the article already had an illustration, I decided to give it a try anyway, as I didn’t take any inspiration from the original illustration for my own work.

For this artwork, I decided to play with several ideas:

  • The division of household tasks between men and women, represented by the clothes hanging out to dry.

  • The fact that women are still most often the ones using contraception, represented by the larger number of pairs of panties.

  • The fact that sperm comes from men, while many male contraceptive methods are still relatively unknown or even feared, as is the case with vasectomy. In reality, vasectomy is a very safe and effective method of contraception.

  • The paradox of this situation, which I wanted to highlight with a touch of humour and absurdity.

My main constraint, or rather my goal, was to create something light and visually pleasant while addressing a more serious and sometimes difficult topic, using irony and humour.

I’d be very happy to hear your thoughts about it!
