I am Rich Potosí
Applying the structure in a sketch for a historical, narrative, artistic video.
HOOK
Before this colonial city even existed, I was already here.
And deep inside me was something that would eventually… CHANGE THE ENTIRE WORLD.
SET UP
I am Sumaj Orcko.
From my summit, I could see the vast Highlands stretching in every direction: enormous deserts, lagoons of impossible colors, sleeping volcanoes, salt flats reflecting the sky.
For centuries, I was a sacred mountain to the people who lived on these lands. The earth was Pachamama, Mother Earth. Mountains had spirits.
Until men from another world arrived.
They had heard of a mountain of silver.
And when they found me, everything changed.
BUILD
They had light skin, long beards, metal armor, and rode enormous animals that had never walked at these heights.
They carried a cross—and an ambition no one had ever seen before.
They ordered men to enter my depths.
First there were a few.
Then hundreds.
Then thousands.
Many went in and never came out.
They tore wounds into my rock, carved galleries through my depths, and took the riches from my veins of silver.
And at my feet, they built a city they called Potosí.
And they gave me a new name.
They began to call me Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain).
The city beneath me would become one of the most opulent the world had ever seen.
It filled with miners, merchants, officials, priests, and travelers from distant lands, making it one of the most populous cities on Earth.
Where there had once been nothing but wind, altitude, earth, and thin air, there were now bells ringing above imposing temples and palaces.
And people. So many people.
CHANGE
Then I ceased to be merely a mountain.
My riches crossed the Andes. They crossed the oceans. They traveled around the world.
From my silver, coins were minted that helped build magnificent temples and palaces across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
That silver financed wars that redrew the map of the world—and the fate of entire nations.
Those coins would become the first truly global currency, opening the way for the global trade networks that would eventually come to be known as globalization.
Kings who had never seen my face knew that I existed.
And one day, I heard a verse written about me:
“I am rich Potosí, the treasure of the world,
I am the king of the mountains,
the envy of kings.”
CLOSING
That was when I understood.
I had not only changed my name.
Or my surroundings.
I had changed the world.
Forever.
