Paper Embroidery on Geometric Art
I may have had too much fun with this class. As an engineer, I particularly loved the combination of art and mathematical principles! I ended up making saveral pieces because I was having so much fun experimenting with different embroidery designs, coloring, and thread. All of the mandalas are on 6" by 6" squares of watercolor paper, but I tried acrylic paint pens, watercolor pens, alcohol markers and even some glitter markers. For one of the pieces where I used alcohol markers, I did the line and color work on separate paper, created a sticker of that paper, and attached it to the watercolor paper for stability. I used metallic embroidery thread on most of them, but I also used black golo crochet thread for one and C-lon beading thread for a couple of the others. Using the beading thread worked well because using tiny beading needles meant I didn't need to make the holes in the paper very big, but I enjoyed making each one of the pieces. The individual pieces below show more detail than the picture of all eight.
