Watercolor Drills

I had fun with this watercolor drills exercise. It may have taken me awhile to get through it all, but creating time for my watercolor practice has been a process that I continue to work on. Jen Dixon was wonderful about walking me through each drill. After completing all the drills, I could definitely see how the drills improved my watercolor skills. And I also found that I was developing my color mixing skills at the same time.

I loved how she walked us through how to get to know our brushes early in the lesson. While I have been keeping track of my watercolor palette by creating swatches, I had never really thought about creating samples of what each of my brushes could do. Now I find myself referring to that all the time.

I also loved the recomendation on the color guide called Color Index, by Jim Krause. I discovered that there are newer versions available, but I purchased the version that Jen has, and I just love browsing it for color combination ideas.

I'm really looking forward to taking more classes from Jen in the near future, and I will try to make time for these drills occasionally in my practice.
