Hi Jane -

We've recently relocated to Wyoming and I wanted to try my hand at painting an animal we see often in this area. I loved the techniques you showed and the order of the layers. I tried to make sure my sketch was accurate before proceeding but now that the painting is finished, I realize he has a bit of a shorter, snubby nose. I shall have to try again!

 

8/22/2026 update

Hi Jane - I tried our handsome bison fellow again and I think he turned out much better! This time, I cut out the drawing and traced around it to ensure I had the exact right shape and size. Also, for my daughter's birthday, we took her to a bison ranch, where I got to see these majestic creatures in real life. Perhaps the inspiration carried over!
