Day 1

I had trouble getting a smooth first wash down.  I had to tinker a lot and it shows.  I probably over did the hair, but that was fun!  I see the value in drawing first.  It's been many years since I've drawn, but I like the drawing better than the painting.  

 

Day 2

I was happy with the sketch....But.. then, I tried out a new granulating paint.  The mass tone was not dark enough, so I had to switch to Lunar black.  Therefore this painting is not truely monochrome.   I'm not happy with it, but I think it resembles the model at least.

 

Day 3

I didn't like this one at all.  Turned out pretty bad.  Let's hope tomorrow goes better!

 

Day 4

I felt pressure to do well on this one because everyone seems to do such a good portrait of this lady.

I had trouble with the hair and wrinkles.  I probably also spent too much time on it, especially the hat and the hat came out pretty bad.  I used masking fluid for the eye highlights because I didn't like using the exacto on the last one.

 

 

Day 4

I didn't have the same paint, so I used Quin purple.  I went too crazy with the hair and splatter part, so there is not room for the portrait to breathe.  Part of that is working on smaller paper size than recommended.  Also lips are too pouty and seem to float on the face rather than be apart of it.

I tried again.  I like the second attempt a little better.  

Day 6

I painted him in my sketchbook in brown as a practice.  I intended to paint him over again in green, but I think I'm happy enough with his face that I will move on.  I probably should have left the background white on this one.

Day 7

I decided to do this one in green and use masking fluid for the highlights  This one is in a sketchbook because I wasn't sure how it would go.  Not sure if I like the obvious overlaps, but  it's okay I guess.  Wish I knew what overworking actually is.
