While each piece has so much going on, they are easy to “read” and view. Really like this, Jen! The 70s flew by for me after graduation from college then having my first baby a month later, so I don’t even recall the popular prints or colors. You’ve captured it and pulled it all together. Kudos!

Glad you liked it :) Can relate -- I don't remember much about 2001 other than 9/11; my kiddo was born in May of that year. Kinda feels like I dropped out of pop culture for the first five years. Weird.

Jen, I too vividly remember 9/11, walking into my office at Brown and getting the news. I think that started a lot of polarization and isolationist tendencies. Then 2020 Covid hIt, and serious isolation. Great to have my then third-grader here for online school, but other than that, more isolation followed. Much more. Now I mostly live like a hermit. Used to be uber-connected person —  into travel, culture, teaching, etc, The day the official quarantine started, all classes were cancelled where I taught. I was then enjoying  teaching fairy tales at a center on URI campus.  part of a national network for life-long learning.  We also “downsized," and I have not adjusted happily. I endure. Art helps. 

I love the playful 70s vibe that came through here! The olive green sampler has such a great rhythm, and the mix of bold black marks with softer color feels really rich. It is fun to see you testing the bronze too, even the “not quite it” discoveries are so useful for building your library.

Thanks Denise :)Pattern studies are so satisfying... One of these days the bronze will bring a "eureka!" moment and will be totally worth it. I might try it on black paper... maybe that will make it pop.

This is just so much fun to look at. The colors are perfect.

The kitchen in my childhood home was the same pale green as in painting two, last row. Ah yes, the 70s!  :)

Thanks Jennifer :)Yes, I bought the kuretake set and absolutely *love* it. It is so worth it. The paints are juicy and the colors are vivid. As soon as I get some money I'm going to invest in the art nouveau set too. 

Thanks for that Jen I have been looking at these sets for a while. I am going straight to Amazon now. I really love the colours in these paintings.

For this project I used my brand new watercolors: kuretake olive green (which I love) and Daler-Rowney duochrome desert bronze (which I'm not crazy about). I'll find a good use for the duochrome ... but this wasn't it!  Still, the inadvertent 70s look is a lot of fun.
1/ D-R Duochrome Bronze, D-R Brown, Faber-Castell pens, gelly pens, posca metallic colors, Ph Martin ink.
