a rather relaxing sketchbook spread
I saw this immediately as an exercise I will return to again and again. So, I started a new sketchbook! Just for these. Then I went down a rabbit hole finding different quilt block patterns. So, I started another sketchbook with just the little quilt sketches in it - sort of a reference book. lol I actually have a quilt pattern book, and that was fun to go through and find my favorites. (I've actualy made quilts from the book - rather neat to re-visit some of those pages - very nostalgic!)
I taped off my sections with washi tape first, and then I painted a base coat with holbein jaune brilliant watercolor. I sort of liked the peachy color, so I left that and then added the patterns over top with a blackwing pencil. I found a set of crayola twistables in the closet, so that's where I started when coloring in. Over top of that, I used some of the black edition set of faber castell colored pencils to add some shading, etc. I touched up some of the white and added black around the dress with some arrtyx markers.
What a fun little sketchbook spread. It's not perfect, but I had no aspirations of it being so - I enjoyed the process, which is what I wanted. Happy! 😃
