Painting Rain and Figures in a Watercolour Landscape: The Red Umbrella

Hi Brenda - well done on completing the class and thank you for sharing your lovely projects. The salt effect has worked really well for you in the larger painting, also the proportions of the main figure and umbrella. I think you’ve also captured more light and energy in the larger one. I do like the way you’ve done the 2 smaller distant figures in the smaller one and see they are absent in the larger one - because you have quite a lot of space at either side of the main figure in the larger painting I do think it may also benefit from having the additional smaller figures too. Otherwise you could add some hazy, abstract building shapes instead. If you’re not sure, and as this is to be a gift, you could try sketching them in some spare paper first then cut them out and overlay them in place. Then if you like the look, paint them on the actual painting. Just a thought. Best wishes, Carrie

I did this one twice. Once in my journal and one that is 12x12. What a delightful subject. Any constructive feedback would be appreciated.
