Soft portrait

Soft portrait - student project

I loved this class. I started painting and drawing a year ago (and I am 52 so it's never too late) and much to my surprise, I really enjoy watercolor and portrait in particular. I love that you can capture emotions and generate a feel with the painting. For this one, I started way to dark and was at the nose area when I made de decision to start all over because there was nothing really to do with it. I am very thankful I did. I started really soft and added layers over layers for contrast. The parts where I struggled the most was the hair and the background. I used a hot press paper from Arches for the first time because I wanted to see the details better but I found that for the background for example, it marked the paper very quickly so is was hard to get a glaze mixte in softness....but maybe it's also my lack of experience and I didn't use enough water on my brush. Any thoughts on that? Any advices to improve my painting skills?!

Thank you soo much for this great class! I am very happy for everything I learned.
