Cold Plunge First Timer? You’re at the Brink of Unlocking Your True Potential

Notes from the owner:

The first time I tried cold plunge therapy was in my friends makeshift tub. He had lovingly built it from an old chest freezer on his front porch, and it got the water down to 2 degrees. Not only was I anxious at the thought of climbing into a box of biting icy water, but I was also prone, at that time, to anxiety itself.

Cold immersion has been around since the Ancient Greek times…and we all know how fit and healthy they were. These wisdomatic people believed that dipping into an arctic cold room was a revitalising remedy for fever and pain relief.

From then, the use of cold-water therapy was used in a medical context until the late 1950s to treat physiological ailments. But it wasn’t until the 1960s when it became a useful tool for post-exercise recovery. Even Olympic Gold-Medalist Paula Ratcliffe swore by the use of ice baths after her marathons, and attributed her victory to this healing therapy.

Have you heard of Wim Hof? Then you'll know that it was he who awakened millions of people around the world to the extraordinary benefits of cold plunging. And he’s probably the reason you are here reading this post today.

At Ice House, we are on a mission to make ice cold plunging your daily or weekly routine so you feel more invigorated, more relaxed and more in charge of your own mental and physical wellbeing.

I’ve come far since that first time in the freezer box. I’ve overcome the fear of fumbling into the water like a scaredy cat in a sink. My anxiety has gone. My body recovers faster after I’ve put it through an intense weight-training session. Even my mental resilience towards doing the things that scare me has built up in such a way that I don’t think twice when sending that proposal or making that pitch without hesitation.

So just get in the ice bath! Immerse yourself in its cooling depths. Hear the rhythmic clinking of the ice cubes and let the experience pull you into a state of focus that borders on ecstasy as it washes your worries away. Plus, the exciting rush of energy you get afterwards is one you’ll crave time and time again.

Interested in an ice bath session but worried about whether you’re doing it right? You can book a one-on-one slot with one of our expert instructors who will give you personal guidance on how to master the art of this ancient tradition and get you on track to biohacking your own body.
