The Beauty of Simplicity: Mastering Vector Graphics with Draplin

Overview For this project, I dove deep into the world of "thick lines" and geometric precision, following the legendary techniques of Aaron Draplin. The goal was to move past over-complicated ideas and find the soul of a brand through essential shapes and purposeful typography.

The Process

  • Ideation: I started with quick thumbnail sketches, focusing on iconic silhouettes that remain legible at any size.
  • Refinement: Moving into Illustrator, I focused on "cleaning up the junk"—reducing anchor points and ensuring every curve felt intentional.
  • Color & Type: I experimented with high-contrast palettes and bold, hardworking typefaces to give the logo a timeless, blue-collar aesthetic.

Reflection This class taught me that a great logo isn't about how much you can add, but how much you can take away while still telling a powerful story.
