Selling the Feeling

For this assignment, I wanted to illustrate than explain marketing and to show how it operates on people, in real life. We face advertisements all the time in various media and ignore and scroll past advertisements for new goods we don't need, etc. And only consider a part of it because it somehow stays with us. The idea came from that.

I begin by studying several ways people make persuasive ads. This is mainly studying social media ads and advertisements/commercials. One way to sell something to people my age and lifestyle is by tapping into how confident they feel. Trends are also important and I also feel like many young adults desire to fit in with the crowd but also wish to stand out. I came up with a concept based on the three topics above. This includes targeting people my age, finding out what issues they want resolved (how confident they feel), the trends they care about and having people desire to be like their peers but, at the same time, want to become unique. I came up with the advertisement concepts based on those. After completing this step, I put all the information I've gathered into the slides which show how the company advertises this product.I focused on making it look realistic, like something you’d actually see online or in a campaign.

The point that sets this project apart from other case studies is its emphasis on the why behind marketing tactics - not just the what. It demonstrates how marketers effectively target primal emotions, relatable personal needs and sensory experiences and how those resonate with consumers, ultimately leading to successful, iconic brands. By focusing on those specific angles, I felt the project successfully articulated the fundamental principles of human desire and motivation within marketing contexts.
