Varied results but such a fun project!
I have limited supplies, but bought a bottle of acrylic ink yesterday just so I could attempt this project. This style of art is my favorite to create, but I've always just used regular watercolor, a spray bottle, and a plastic card, so I was excited to try with the inks.
My supplies I had on hand included a bottle of India ink, a bottle of liquid watercolor in white, and my regular watercolors, so I made use of all of it. I also decided to try it on three different types of paper, because yesterday, I found two stray sheets of 300 lb paper that apparently I'd bought in the past. One had a light purple smudge on it, so I decided to use it since I was using Quin Violet as one of my sky colors.
The 300 lb paper produced the best final result, although it was the most difficult to get the inks and paints to move at all. The acrylic ink did not want to flow. On the 2nd and 3rd pieces, I wet the lines first, before adding any color, and that may have helped a little, but nothing seemed to flow easily like Denise's. I used plenty of water (and paper towels) too and will continue making these as I get more inks.
Overall, I loved the project and the results. The 300 lb paper had the best result, with Arches 140 coming in second, and Canson XL 3rd. All three curled as I was painting, but the 300 lb laid flat as soon as I set it down to dry. The Canson is still trying to curl even as it dries.
Thanks for another fun class, Denise. I'm learning so much in all your classes.
