Illuminating Watercolors: Techniques for Painting Natural and Artificial Light

Hello Reg,Both of your paintings turned out really beautiful. In your forest piece, the color transitions—especially from yellow to green—look very natural, and your wet-on-wet technique works wonderfully. You’ve also captured the textures of the leaves, branches, and the ground very successfully.Similarly, in your cityscape, the lights and the way they softly diffuse into the sky are beautifully done. Your wet-on-wet application is very successful in both paintings. The transitions from purple to blue are also very pleasing. I especially loved your city—the perspective, textures, and windows all look great.The issue you experienced in both paintings seems to be related to the paper. In the forest painting, for the lifting technique to work well, the paper should not absorb and lock in the paint too quickly. Once the paint settles, it becomes quite difficult to lift it with a brush. I believe this is due to the paper.In the second painting, the textures forming along the edges could be caused by water sitting on the tape and then flowing back into the painting. Additionally, paper that has been exposed to air and humidity over time can start to deteriorate, and when painted on, it may develop small spots like these. So this could also be related to the condition of the paper.Still, congratulations—both paintings are truly lovely.And I really appreciate if you give a review about class. Reg, the contrast here feels warm and atmospheric, it’s really pleasant to look at.

The paper isn't great for these techniques so I discovered. For the second piece,  the sky is somewhat blotched.
It is very good practice.
