Matisse-Inspired

Matisse-Inspired - image 1 - student project

This was not even close to my Matisse-inspired imagination. After examining many Matisse shapes, I started cutting. Old construction paper and lots of cutting netted lots of shapes. Though I tried several adheisive methods, this old paper insisted on resistanting everything in my glue arsenal except Modpodge. So it went.

I let it sit overnight after making sure all the bubbly areas were flattened. "Mixed media, here I come!" thought I. Colored pencils didn't show up on top of the Modpodge coating. My next try was Posca markers. OK. BUT, the darn collage topping made those markers skid and splutter untidily.

Stumped, I chose to persist, determined that my weirdo shape in the center would have a colorful place to reside. With trepidation, some yellow Posca covered the failed colored pencil marks and then grew into odd little flowers. I kept going with the yellow. Yellow turned spirals greenish, so moved to pink.

The monstrosity in the middle got white marks. A few other areas for white marks. Some pink dots here and lines there. Needed a bity more red due to that red shape. Added hints of reds that look more red in person. Aimed to have a focal point and to balance colors.

Then. Just. Stopped. Done.

Tried my best. More marks would create too much clutter. So, here it is and still unsure what "it" is exactly. Guesses welcome!

Smiles anyway, Judy
