Hat
I really enjoyed combining all these different art media with gouache to paint one object! It's exciting to see how the different combinations result in slightly different styles. This was a great introduction to playing with my materials, and I look forward to experimenting more. :)

Day 5: My final piece for this class! Hat in alcohol marker and gouache. I was really inspired by the fall leaves and the weather in my area today, so I decided to paint my hat in this setting. The alcohol markers played pretty well with gouache paint and helped brighten up my fall colors a bit. Using them together was a little tricky at first but by the end of it I can see how they can work together. Using black marker for the base of the fence was much easier than trying to paint it with a small brush would have been.

Day 4: Hat study in wax crayon and gouache. I went ahead and did the wax crayon study and saved the marker one for last. It was difficult to see what I was drawing with the wax crayon but it was really fun to paint over it and see the design be revealed. I loved the blue and purple circle pattern so much I did a small sheet of it to use for a collage project. This exercise was enjoyable because it felt very loose and experimental so I didn't worry too much about being "realistic."
Day 3: Hat study with color pencil and gouache. I love the color pencil over the gouache! I will definitely experiment more with that combo. I didn't think painting the negative space was going to go well for me but it worked out better than I thought. It was a good exercise for my eye and brain for sure!

Day 2: Hat study in ink and gouache. I took inspiration from some hats I saw on Etsy that had hand embroidered flowers on them. The background got away from me but I like the values I achieved on the fabric hat. I don't think I've ever shaded with stippling before. That was fun to try.

Day 1: Hat light study in pencil and gouache. Other than the fact that I can't unsee my hat's traumatized face, it came out pretty good.
