Trunk to Heart

Trunk to Heart
In colors soft as morning skies,
Two gentle souls in love arise.
A mother’s trunk, a tender start,
Guides her child from trunk to heart.
Through joy and dust, through dusk and dawn,
Their steps in rhythm, spirit drawn.
No words are needed, none apart —
For love speaks loud from trunk to heart.
Fun Facts About Elephants
1. The Longest Pregnancy
Female elephants carry their babies for about 22 months—nearly two years! This is
the longest pregnancy of any land animal. The long time allows the baby’s brain to
grow large and intelligent.
2. Newborns Can Walk Quickly
A baby elephant, called a calf, can stand and walk within just a few hours after birth.
This helps it stay close to its mother and nurse safely.
3. Mothers and Aunties Help Each Other
Elephant herds are led by an older female called the matriarch. When a calf is born,
other females—called “allomothers”—help care for and protect the baby.
4. Elephants Have Great Memories
Elephants remember water holes, paths, and friends for many years. This strong
memory helps them survive in dry seasons and find food and safety for their families.
5. They Show Deep Emotions
Elephants comfort each other, show affection by touching trunks, and even mourn
when one dies. They express love, joy, and grief just like humans.
Bonus Fact: A baby elephant usually weighs about 200–300 pounds (90–135 kg)at
birth, and nurses from its mother for up to two years!
