First Steps with Wacom: My Results from Gabriela Benke's Class

My Goal:
As a new Wacom tablet user, my main goal for this class was to overcome the initial awkwardness and improve my hand-eye coordination. I wanted to learn the fundamental exercises to build a solid foundation for my future vector illustration work.

The Process:
I followed all the exercises provided by Gabriela, focusing on:

  • Drawing straight and parallel lines.

  • Practicing waves with pressure dynamics.

  • Drawing smooth circles and ellipses.

  • Cross-hatching exercises to control spacing and pressure.

What I Learned:

The most valuable lesson for me was understanding how pen pressure settings can dramatically change the feel of drawing. Fine-tuning them in both the Wacom drivers and my design software was a real game-changer. The biggest challenge was drawing perfect circles, but practice really helps! I also feel much more confident just resting my hand on the tablet and making smooth strokes.

Thank you, Gabriela Benke, for a great introductory class! Any feedback from the community is welcome.
