Revisited: Sleeping Fairy

Revisited: I came back to do the piece with the fairy in the woods. I almost gave up as my color did it seem quite right for nighttime ethereal fairy sleeping and I lost my level three leaves to the painting process … but I was able to redraw the furthest leaves with a green colored pencil and did an extremely dark final background. Some pastel shading finished it off.

Working my way through an ambitious negative space project with magnolias and leaves inspired by a tutorial in a book by Sarah Cray, perfect for applying the techniques explained so well in this class… it’s taking a lot longer than I imagined! Also wanting to do the fairy project from this class. Stay tuned! My background wash was a little heavy here and I’m having to redefine the dark areas and adding to the leaves. It’s not a perfect layer by number project … which I think worked well in this class. But I’m enchanted with negative space art lately and love the effect. I will post updates when I complete the projects. UPDATE: finished the magnolia project. On to the fairy.
Second update: thanks to a tip from our Skillshare teacher below - I darkened the background further with Prisma colored pencils in indanthrone blue and metallic gold. Very happy with how that turned out !
