Book review: The alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Book review: The alchemist by Paulo Coelho - student project

Behind what is going to become an ever inspiring book by Paulo Coelho, the “The Alchemist”. The plot tells about a little shepherd boy Santiago, who has come to realize his dreams of treasure under the Egyptian pyramids. It then becomes reflection – getting deeper about the search itself to better the self and discover the spirituality of things. The subjects dealt in the book are destiny of fate, self-improvement, and listening to one’s heart. The place takes Santiago from the quiet hills of Spain to the endless secretive deserts of North Africa. Each place which Santiago reaches adds to the hunt, and the desert especially seems to glint with its symbolic and emotional richness.

Coelho is clear and poetic in very easy prose; hence, the story can be read very suitably but has numerous rich lines. Truly, the author never uses boring wordiness, but then, whatever he says has a very deep meaning. Centro-degrande realizes Santiago’s character as a living establishment story. Initially, just a confused and inquisitive boy, ultimately he becomes wise and strong and immensely confident because of the characters he meets: a king talking about Personal Legends, a crystal merchant bound by fear, and an alchemist who learns to listen to the Soul of the world.

In brief, The Alchemist is a magical and powerful tale that inspires everyone and goes beyond a simple treasure hunt. This is a book about finding purpose, accepting the changes that come with it, and finally learning to trust your heart. Its simple but poetic writing, intertwining of symbolic characters and meaningful journeys, is the reason why this book lingers on much after one turns the last page. Anyone who feels lost, stuck, or in need of some motivation must read this. The greatest thing about The Alchemist is that it speaks to everyone: hardcore readers and those who have just read one book or two in their lives. Absolutely an evergreen read. I’d rate it 5/5.
