The Blue Castle is one of my all time favorite books, but I feel like many of the covers don't do it justice. The themes are breaking free of convention and also include a lot of nature. Because the main character loves nature and beauty so much, I wanted to represent that. I thought of many different things and really had trouble narrowing my choices down. One of the ones I showed here is supposed to look like an antique wallpaper. I wanted there to be insects on it, as well as florals and foliage, because Valancy is not just fixated on florals as beautiful. I really wanted to make each of these into a design, but have spent so much time on this already, procrastinating my other responsibilities, so I figured it was time to move on :P

Maybe I'll come back to the above one, I really like this concept.

This was my very rough drawing of the wallpaper that I ended up digitizing.

I also really like this one, but again, too little time.

This was my first attempt, I really wanted to make it look like the wall paper was being ripped and the M emerging, but couldn't really figure out quite how to do that.

This second one I tried to simplify down, as I thought the above was possibly too cluttered.
