Pulling the Puddle - Master an essential watercolor technique.

Beautiful washes, Caroline.  I also really like your lovely autumn palette of colour.  Nicely done!  You're ready to move ahead and play with graduated washes and washes that change colour along the way.

Your wash turned out great!  Chris is a fun teacher:)

thanks for the compliment, Diana.  Though I love all the different media available to us as artists, I find watercolour the most playful and surprising.  This one technique of pulling puddles really allows surprising freedom with a medium that so many artists struggle with.  Watercolour works best when we nudge it along, allowing it to express itself in surprising ways rather than exert our control over it to achieve predetermined results.  Water colour is a joy!!!

Hey Chris! I just wanted to share that I tried out a sample of a sky or water, and I used that color nudging technique I learned in your class. It turned out so wonderfully smooth! I’m thinking I might need to take this class as well, to really refine that technique since I still find it a bit challenging.

Keep playing with the technique and it will become instinctive.  You will find your own unique way to nudge the puddle and you'll forget that you ever lived without knowing how to do it.
