Rough Seas

I used Baohong Masters' Choice 300gsm 100% cotton rough paper in size 36x26cm and Daniel Smith's and Schmincke's tube watercolors, Talens' white goauche and Derwent Academy Oil Pastels (white and blue).

This has been on my to-do-list for a while, I finally dared to try it. I figured this wouldn't be easy since impressionism usually isn't for me, but this wasn't that bad. Hardest part was using the white oil pastel on the paper before painting as you couldn't see where you've put it! But it was a fun technique to try out. I intentionally left out the other two sailboats, but I kinda regret it. I wanted to make the painting dark and moody and I think I succeeded there, at least when it comes to the sky. The yellow tint on the sky messed up my clouds a bit, softening them, and the boat definitely required some back and forth tinkering, and I wish I had made the waves more angular, I don't like how soft they are... But other than that I'm happy with the finished painting, at least I finished! :)

Thank you for the fun class, Michelle!
