A glimpse into my creative world

A glimpse into my creative world - student project

I took Lucy's class on creating a talking head video twice, and I’ll likely revisit it again because the tips were so helpful. I wanted to make a video to introduce myself and my work for my art exhibition. As an introvert with social anxiety, I almost called the whole thing off because I knew I'd have to give a speech. But this 'Once in a Lifetime' :) opportunity was too good to pass up, so I searched for a creative alternative. (I keep thinking about the band Talking Heads with this class!)

I wasn’t comfortable relying on just a few notes - despite knowing exactly what to say, my mind went completely blank when I had to speak. In the end, I wrote out a full script for my voiceover (and tweaked it along the way). I wasn’t entirely happy with the Dutch version, but with time running out, I decided to accept it. Recording it was a challenge, but I found it helpful to give my hands something to do, like fidgeting, which took off some of the pressure and helped me stay grounded. Lucy's reminder to be kind to yourself was a big help too.

Although the video I made isn’t a traditional talking head video, Lucy's advice really guided me through the process. After the exhibition, I re-recorded the voiceover in English for my website, and I'm much happier with the result.

Here’s the link to the video (it’s just a tiny bit longer than 30 seconds…). If you pay close attention, you might even catch a glimpse of Lucy!

PS: Of course, I don’t expect you to watch the whole 7 minutes. I was worried it might be too long for the exhibition, but the other artist giving his speech went on much longer—LOL!
