Last year, spring 2023, I applied for a book project where a former journalist-turned course-leader helped me to plan, analyze ideas and motivate me to draw around 80 frames of comic drawings by hand. I then scanned in those pen drawings and saved them to my Google drive. I also posted one of my drawings on a new Business Instagram account called @christinabangillustration, but I wanted to learn digital drawing on Procreate before another post was made.

The course ended and time passed, and I just had the drawings in my Google drive folder. This spring 2024 I went to a physical course where another course leader presented an Instagram program where she would help people succeed in Instagram. I still had the dream of learning digital art. I just experimented with Procreate and made my first post, based on the pen drawings I made in 2023. Since then I have posted around 14 posts, a start of my journey with the profile which will circle around three topics:

My life with work-life balance

My life as a nightowl

My life as an airhead/chaoshead/forgetting things

 

…and the wonderful mix of akward situations this creates.

 

The wonderful start of September was my Instagram page being flagged by Instagram two times for suspicious automated behaviour, which was basically me liking too many posts and hearting a few follower posts, and also maybe sending too many fun videos to my friends. I do not know, but by a quick Google search I found out I am not the only victim. The algorithm bots are basically on overdrive and flagging and blocking countless accounts, and leading to desperation for those who actually make a living out of Instagram. This blockage taught me not to put all my eggs in one basket, and thus expand to other platforms: first comic post on LinkedIn today, and maybe TikTok tomorrow.

 This autumn(3,5 months) 2024

-Buy an apartment and squeeze in drawing sessions on the IPAD on a designated table

-Draw bigger parts of colour on the bus (not detail work)

- Look for ideas in my files.

-Draw out the many ideas I have only in written form by hand, scan into Google drive

-Day-job

 

2025 spring:

-Learn Gaussian blur on Procreate, to make better shading and not so flat images.   -Learn Clip Art, and compare which is better for Instagram.

-Start a comic blog with personal texts and digital drawings. Links to it on Instagram page (circles under bio)

-Learn basic pattern design, post on personal drawing account

 

2025 autumn

-Same as in spring 2025

-Start writing one book for comics, eg. “My life as a nightowl”, include scientific

knowledge about sleep + interview with scientists with opposing views.

-Apply for a senior position in my day-job (better paid)

 

2026 spring

-Send nightowl comic book to publisher

-Start writing comic book with texts with topic: “My life as a chaoshead”

-Learn more about pattern design and post on private account

 

2027

-Send chaoshead comic book to a publisher

-Start writing comic book about “My life with work-life balance”

-Send work-life comic book to publisher

-Continue learning pattern design
