Watercolor Botanicals: Play of Sunlight

Watercolor Botanicals: Play of Sunlight - image 1 - student project

I used Baohong Masters' Choice 300gsm 100% cotton rough paper and Daniel Smith's tube watercolors. This was hard to photograph in proper lighting because it's the biggest piece I've ever worked on (51x36cm / 14x29in), so the colors seem more yellow/warmer than they are.

If I'm being honest, I'm not perfectly happy with my results, I'm definitely a bit of a perfectionist and I feel like the stripes didn't come out at the correct values or width, but the green I used was so staining it was hard to correct. Plus I messed up the lower left corner (it's missing the light section) but I definitely learned a lot, I loved working on a larger format and I have every intention of doing this one again later on! Probably on some other type of paper. It's the kind of painting I'd love to put on my wall at some point, so I hope Katya does more of these botanical classes because I'm hooked!

Thanks Katya! :)
