Ok, first things, a 2H is more of a drafting pencil, so if you can, try and stick to pencils around the 2B - 4B range. If all you have for the moment is a 2-H, you don't actually have to try and shade it as dark as you have here. It's more important that there's a clear different between the light and shadow side than matching the values in the reference exactly. So if the dark side is only lightly sketched with the 2H that's perfectly fine because you're still making the separation. This lesson is more about developing Light and Shadow shapes to create form more so than a Value class per se. As for these sketches, you've got the general idea right. The first image on the lest is looking like the best one. You've got the right amount of bounce light in the shadow side there, try to make the core shadow a little darker however. With regards to your pencil rendering, try to make your pencil strokes match the direction of the body part instead of just moving it in every direction. You want to get into the habit when adding shading of following along with the plane changes of the body. Try to imagine you're actually shading over the surface of the figure. That's going to result more cleaner shading, and will also make the forms feel more three-dimensional and lifelike. Let me know if you need some additional points. But good start here. Keep this up!

These are a little rough - my blending and tone variation are not quite there. I can see it, just need to work on getting my hand to get used to the different levels of pressure. Didn't help myself by using a 2H lead, either.
