Roses- Friendship for the Spirit

I signed up for this class to prioritize my self-expression. I paint flowers. I’ve been working on a way to improve my art. I have lots of ideas to fill a book with roses and thoughts for the spirit.  This class is helping me have fun and paint the roses I've been wanting to paint.

Here’s a sketch that shows me working on strokes, and mixing colors.

Here’s my testing of a few of your ideas.

This is the project I’m currently working on. I need a better brush. It’s hard to layer with basics acrylic paint because it’s transparent. I have been mixing with a student-grade titanium white. I do have a golden Titan Buff and I’ll be testing that tomorrow.

I want to add a little blue. I need more, lots more details. Moving forward I've learned the following:

1. Use a professional-grade white to mix with your student-grade color paint

2. Titan Buff darkens my colors but I want them bright. I do want a warm vanilla white. I mixed titanium white, with a little titan buff and a drop of yellow. Now I have a sun-kissed white.

3. I love the idea that anything goes! I have this belief that there's no right way to paint a flower because it's all about self-expression.

4. I love adding a touch of turquoise

5. I need to have more contrast among the petals.

6. Having a good brush helps. I feel the paint gets lost in my cheap brush.

Thank you!  I’m going to be posting updates on my blog as that’s where I share my art.

Heres an update. It’s definitely a process and it requires trust. Thank you Suzanne for reminding me that I am an artist and believe in my blooms.
