Elements of a Viral Video

The title sparked interest in who will be the winner of the contest and what is the ONE question they have to answer in order to win the latest iPhone. It appeals to college students and even people who may not be able to afford it.

The thumbnail shows someone actually winning which is the payoff to the promise made in the title. They highlighted the iPhone with a big red circle in the picture. So the viewers know at least one person won.

The description just reiterated the title and further reinforced that they would be giving away the latest iPhone.

The video itself had many elements that made it interesting to keep watching.

They added suspenseful music in the beginning and throughout leading up to the answers people were giving. They showed a preview to a payoff (someone giving the correct answer) right at the beginning. Then they introduced the premise of the video without giving away too much (the actual questions they would be asking). They included comic relief (music and people who were not the target audience for their questions like a child and foreigner).

Instead of showing each interview in its entirety they spliced and stringed them together to keep it interesting (so you can see everybody’s answer to the same question back to back).

There was text on screen to highlight key factors like the question, category and the interviewee’s name. They added sound effects for and. And at the end a CTA for those who made it to the end of the video (this makes loyal viewers feel special) and bloopers.
